I ran across this article earlier on another blog and was fascinated by it. Excelltech Mobile has created an app for the iPhone and iPad which allegedly assists in recording EVPs.
According to developer Ed Williams, paranormal phenomenon is most often reported with abnormal electromagnetic fields. "The Paranormal Recorder uses raw, magnetic data from the device's digital compass to trigger audio recording," he said. "The electronic voice phenomenons, or EVPs, are caused by electromagnetic fluctuations, which reflect paranormal forces that occur during these communications."

If this works the way it is supposed to (if the app is legit), then it will only trigger the recorder when there is an Electro-Magentic Field present. No more hours of listening to huge silent rooms, or re-listening to conversations you were a part of the first time. Just short sections of recordings triggered by the presence of EMF with potential ghostly messages present.
Will this app revolutionize the ghost hunting experience and single-handedly change the way we approach EVP recordings? Probably not. Some will see it as gimmicky, while others like having, and pouring over, the hours and hours of raw audio data hunting for those tidbits of audio 'gold'. Not to say this app doesn't work or isn't reliable. There is just too much potential information you can miss recording ONLY EMF spikes. For the 'couch' ghost hunter this might be something to experiment with. For investigators of the paranormal I don't see how it would hurt to try this app (it's only $2.99 after all) but I personally wouldn't use this as my sole EVP recording option.
