And here is your Word of the Weird for this week. Sorry it’s late. Been in bed with back issues. Anyway, there is this phenomenon that has happened worldwide that you guys may or may not have heard of. Last fall, around the world, strange sounds were being heard which sounded like long notes being blown on a trumpet. This phenomenon happened in Chicago, Winnipeg, Alberta, Glasgow and Malaysia. People were recording these eerie, mournful sounds and claiming all sorts of sources, from aliens, to Gabriel blowing his trumpet to herald the end of the world.

No one is quite sure what is going on, but many have blamed HAARP, or the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, funded by the U.S. Navy, Air Force and the University of Alaska. I even read one account where they claimed it was Chuck Norris snoring… Lol. As stated above, the speculations of the origins of this sound are many and varied. Some could even be plausible. However, this is more than likely a hoax.
Around fall of 2011 a movie came out called Red State, in which there is a hoax such as this. It’s so similar in fact, that the sounds being heard around the world are the EXACT same sound heard in this movie… There is a YouTube video below that explains that in these ‘real life’ videos of the sounds, there are even similarities in many of them such as a screech and a bird cry. So, for those of you who were planning for the end of the world…don’t. And for those of you that believe it is real…it’s not. But for those of us who just like weird, odd stories of a viral hoax that has traveled the world…you’re welcome. The sounds are really eerie though!
